Tips to Be More Productive in the Morning

Waking up early really is tough. If it were possible, no one would do it – but life doesn’t work that way, the world keeps turning 24 hours a day, and we’ve got to make it happen.

But if we’re going to do it, let’s do it the best way possible, so that in the end we actually benefit from the effort. That’s the mindset to have.

So here are four simple, easy-to-follow tips to help improve your day.

1. Go to Bed Early – Productive

The easiest way to wake up better and more productive in the morning is to go to bed early – simply because you’ll be more rested. Most people who complain about having to wake up early also tend to go to bed late.

We need to understand that our bodies run on a biological system that needs rest to function properly. And let’s be honest: even people who go to bed early can wake up feeling a bit sleepy – that’s totally normal, since you were just asleep. But if you’re feeling drowsy and sluggish all day long, that’s a sign the real problem is not getting enough sleep in the first place.

Scientific studies show the body needs an average of 8 hours of sleep to fully recharge. Of course, everyone’s different – some people function great on just 5 hours – so pay attention to what works for you.

2. Put Your Alarm Out of Reach

One foolproof trick is placing your alarm somewhere you can’t reach from bed. That way, you’re forced to physically get up, which also gives your heart rate a quick boost – helping your body wake up fully instead of lingering in bed.

These days, plenty of phone alarm apps require you to complete a task – like solving a math problem – before the alarm will stop. By the time you’ve done that, chances are you’re already wide awake.

3. Build a Routine

Humans thrive on routine. With one in place, you can plan everything out and actually follow through, because you’re dedicating specific time to specific things – without getting distracted by stuff that doesn’t need to happen right then.

Doing one thing at a time and keeping things organized doesn’t just help you get through your to-do list – it makes your whole day more dynamic, keeps you productive throughout, and helps you actually solve problems instead of just reacting to them.

If you can, try creating a schedule with set times for everything – from when you wake up to when you go to sleep, including lunch breaks and even naps if possible. Do this consistently enough, and it becomes a habit you don’t even have to think about anymore.

4. Set a Goal

A goal is what drives us and helps us reach our plans and dreams. Once you’ve set one, everything gets easier — you can pursue it with focus, without straying off course.

Bringing this into your daily life — even if it’s a mid- or long-term goal — makes a difference across every area of your life. Because whether we realize it or not, setting and following through on a goal changes how we carry ourselves in other parts of life too.
